"That Patricia Neal is alive is miracle enough," wrote LOOK senior editor Gereon Zimmermann in 1969. She suffered a stroke four years earlier when an aneurysm burst near her left temporal lobe. She was pregnant at the time. "While carrying the child, Lucy Neal, she began to relearn to see, to think, to speak and to walk."

When the magazine profiled her, she had made a triumphant comeback in the movie version of The Subject was Roses. She was nominated for an Oscar for that role.

In the 40 years after, Neal starred in movies and television projects and was a presence on Broadway. In 2006, she wrote her autobiography, An Unquiet Life. In 2007, she read excerpts from that book at a theatre festival in Omaha.

Patricia Neal died in 2010.
